In a world where high end headphones seems to evolve the wrong way, meaning that almost every big headphone manufacturer started doubling the price with every new model, I figured I go in the other direction for a while, to the cheaper market to see what lays there.

Build quality, looks & specs

The first thing I noticed about the Syllable D900 Mini is that they come with their own carrying case which is also a charging “station” as it includes a battery inside and can be charged using a usb cable.

That is very useful and I know it from my Voyager Legend Bluetooth headset which I use on a daily basis with my phone and the charging case is extremely useful.

The headphones are made of plastic but they seem sturdy. One thing I don’t like about them is that it’s quite hard to get a fit. I’ve read a few reviews saying that the bass can get overwhelming or others that say that they don’t have bass.

Well, this might very well be because of the bad fit with your ears. If you push them too hard, you will get closed sound and overwhelming bass, if you don’t push them enough, you will get an open soundstage but distant mids and no bass.

It was also quite confusing how to pair them with the phone, but after one minute I managed to get sound . You have to pair just one earbud to the phone and then pair them with each other.

That being said, the first test was with classical music and I was quite impressed, but more about that later.

Listening Impressions and Tests

The tests were performed with  Samsung Galaxy Note 4.

Bass

The bass is deep, has a good punch and has decent control and detail. Overall, it’s fun and quite enjoyable if you manage to find a good fit.

Midrage

I found the midrange to be quite enjoyable and I’ve really enjoyed the voices and instruments on these headphones as they presented good details and textures. Guitars are sparkly & extended, voices are natural and nicely extended. They’ve really managed to tickle my ears with details on guitar strings for example.

Treble

The treble nicely detailed, extended and quite pleasant overall.

Details

The Syllables are quite detailed and I’ve often encountered an instrument that is tickling my ears in a very pleasant way.

Voices

The voices are also a strong point of these headphones as they’re present, extended and somehow holographic in the scene. Really nice.

Soundstage

If you get a good fit, you’ll also have a good and holographic soundstage. It could use a little more width, but overall it is quite decent and very pleasant on instrumental & classical music.

Tactility & Textures

Because of good textures and transients these headphones can be quite tactile sometimes, as they tickled my ears in a good way on quite a few occasions already.

Conclusions

Ok, I can say that I found the Syllable D900 to be  another good pair of headphones that offer good quality for their price. I’ve really enjoyed listening to them and indeed, having no cable is comfortable to do things while listening to your favorite music.

Are these headphones worth the money? They sure are!
