This post is not a review and it has the purpose of helping a company that I hold dear very much. I am talking about Audeze.

Audeze Robbery

I will take advantage of this opportunity to thank you for reading the articles on HeadMania and for coming back every time for more. This is what motivates me the most in writing more articles and keeping HeadMania up and running. If you don’t know, my blog has no profit, and I actually have to pay to keep it alive and running. This is why I have no interest in saying anything else than what I actually think.

All my reviews are my true and honest impressions. So, if you like HeadMania, I don’t know if you guys are aware of this, but one of the reasons I started the blog is because of Audeze LCD-2 and the impact those headphones and Audeze had on me. I absolutely fell in love with them  and had to write about it. Audeze will always have a special place in my heart as they really got me much deeper into this hobby.

I just love how they can can take you from your life and make you enter the euphonic world of music. Who is Audeze? If you ask a old audiophile, he would probably evade the answer as he doesn’t know much about it. I love what Audeze did in such short time! When did they start? A few years ago. What did they do? Well, the answer is simple: a lot, in a very short time:

  • They became one of the most spoken brands on headfi and in all the headphone industry
  • Produced world class products that compete with the best headphones in the world and companies that have decades of experience behind them
  • Didn’t stop R&D as they are continuously trying to improve their products and bring the best on the market and did a good job from my perspective

Let’s get back to the initial problem. I said that Audeze needed our help. Why? Because on 28th of February, they became victims of a big robbery:

Audeze was robbed last night (Feb 28) and about $250,000 worth of headphones was stolen. You should be highly suspicious if anyone other than an Authorized Audeze dealer offers you Audeze headphones for sale at a reduced price. We do not allow our dealers to sell via Amazon, eBay, Craigslist etc., so deals on these sites should be researched before you purchase. You should also be very concerned if their headphones do not have a serial number, or the seller refuses to give you the serial number before purchase. All Audeze headphones have a serial number on the inside of the pin block. We will soon publish a list of all stolen products’ serial numbers. In addition, Audeze is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the thieves. If you have any information or questions, please write to: support@audeze.com

I beg you not to buy suspicious headphones that may belong to the stolen units from Audeze. The thieves might tempt you with considerably lower prices. Think ahead, don’t buy them and report them to support@audeze.com . If Audeze doesn’t get back on its feet, it will be a strong blow to all the whole audiophile community. If you like the headphones from Audeze, please think that they are still at the beginning of the road and they have a lot more to offer.

I am often talking to Sankar, the President, COO and also one of the 2 co-founders of Audeze, great guy by the way. This is why I know that they always try to evolve and they consider R&D to be a top priority in their company.

They will always surprise us with something new and with their great sound. This is the time to help a friend in need. Let’s keep an eye out for the bastards responsible!

Yesterday morning we learned there was the break-in at the Audeze factory. It looks like a well-planned coordinated job. The thieves crawled under and behind the racks to defeat our security system. Our finished goods inventory is wiped out and there is damage to our property. The thieves went through some of the raw materials and boxes and we are not sure of the full extent of the damage. The Costa Mesa police department is going through the factory collecting information and they’re being very helpful.

We’re a small company and all our employees are like family. As news of the break-in spread many of our employees came to the office. A lot of them were worried about the consequences and what’s next if something of this magnitude happens to a small company like ours. Everyone was milling around the assembly line talking about how to get back on our feet.

The new EL8s were supposed to ship and were in a separate area of the facility. Luckily this area was left untouched. In an impromptu act of solidarity, Ivan who handles our shipping started packing EL8s. Marco our assembly lead started working on organizing the space. Justin and Dave joined and started working as well. Nearly every one turned out and started working, picking up the pieces.

Our sales team got in, getting the word out on social media and sending emails to our dealers. We’ve had calls from customers and friends.

People are posting leads for us on Facebook and other social media. The outpouring of support is really tremendous. We have announced a reward for anyone helping us arrest and convict the culprits. Meanwhile security is being beefed up at the warehouse. While this may be a big hit for a small company like Audeze in the short-term, we will actually grow stronger from all this. We will be back in business on Monday building headphones with the same love, care and craftsmanship.
